It has been widely reported that Christmas Day 2016 was the warmest in the UK since records began. I am always a bit dubious about such claims because it depends on where you are. I have been recording maximum and minimum temperatures to see how efficiently I use my night storage heating compared to the outside temperature – see chart below. Home is in Brownhills, West Midlands.
The actual figures for 2010 were minus 4 and minus 2 celsius; it had been minus 10 a few days before. That December was, apparently, the coldest ever recorded in the UK.
At my house, the warmest Christmas Day in recent times was in 2014.
Although Mister Blue Sky holds sway, I will need to wrap up against the cold wind today, though!
